Princess Elsa has kept her ability to create ice and snow secret since a childhood accident nearly hurt her younger sister, Anna, and has grown up isolated, taught to hide her powers rather than understand them. On the day of her coronation, Elsa's powers are exposed in public, and in her panic she flees the kingdom, accidentally plunging it into an endless winter. Anna sets out after her, gathering an ice harvester named Kristoff, his reindeer and a cheerfully oblivious snowman named Olaf along the way, determined to bring her sister home and find a way to undo the winter before it is too late.

The musical has music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, expanding the songs from Disney's 2013 animated film of the same name with new material for the stage. It opened on Broadway in 2018 and has since been widely licensed, including a shortened Frozen Jr. edition for young performers.

The score keeps the film's most beloved songs and adds new ones built for the stage, and its landmarks include Let It Go, Elsa's soaring first-act finale; For the First Time in Forever; and Do You Want to Build a Snowman?, the sisters' childhood duet.
